What causes canine ear infections, and what are the symptoms?
The following guide will help answer these questions, and provide some natural ways you can help deal with this common problem at home.
Remember: There’s no substitute for a professional veterinarian to rule out other possible health conditions, and to verify that you are in fact dealing with an ear infection.
CAUSES: There are a variety of issues that cause ear infections in dogs. These are the most common:
- Anatomy: certain breeds with hanging ears, like spaniels and retrievers, are more prone to ear infections than others.
- Bacteria: this is the most common cause of canine ear infections. Parasites: mites sometimes infest canine ears, especially in puppies.
- Lifestyle: dogs that frequent the outdoors or commonly swim tend to experience ear infections more often, sometimes due to water or grass seed that’s become stuck in the ear.
- Fungus: fungi, like yeast for example, can sometimes lead to infection.
- Diet: poor and imbalanced diets are sometimes the source of recurring ear infection.
SYMPTOMS
Here’s what to look for if you suspect an ear infection:
- Frequent shaking or tilting of the head that favours one side
- Red or brown discharge
- An odd, almost sweet, odor coming from the ear
- Redness
- Swelling
- Scabs on the outside or inside of the ear
- Constant rubbing or scratching of the ear
- Trouble keeping balance
Please note that with every product that is sold there will be a Product Information Sheet attached which explains in detail how to use the product to ensure that you don't use too much product which can cause a distress reaction from the pet.
You only need to use a tiny drop. Any mites will react until they die, so if you use too much this could speed this process up and cause uncessary distress.
Also make sure that there are no sore or open wounds as this can cause pain and suffering to your pet.
Ear Mite Treatment: Ear mites can be despatched easily and quickly. The first issue is to kill the mites, neutralising them quickly. Put two drops in each ear, then put a few drops onto a soft cloth and clean the ear thoroughly. Recommended use is three times per day at first and then as required. If you haven't used this product before START WITH JUST 1 TINY DROP
Ear Infection Treatment: Put 2 drops into each ear canal then put a few drops onto a soft cloth and clean out the ear thoroughly. Recommended use is three times daily to neutralise and stop the infection. Continue using until you see the results you want to achieve. Clean ears are less susceptible to infection. Remember to always wipe your animals ears out after getting wet. Keep the ears clean- remove debris, wax and dust from the animal's ears using the Ear Neutraliser. Use as often as required. If you haven't used this product before START WITH JUST 1 TINY DROP
PLEASE NOTE
If the treatment is done too fast / too much oil is put into a pet's ear to treat mites, or other ear and skin problems this can cause distress to the animal with the following potentially happening:
- The ear gets clogged up with oil, causing discomfort as it would with a human, such as after swimming.
- Ear Mites -The ear mites go crazy to get away from the oil and drive the pet crazy too. This can be alarming to owner and pet. Once the oil touches the mites, they either die or leave the ear.
So only use a very small, tiny drop often, is more beneficial and cost-effective than just trying to pour too much oil in the ear all at one time.
