The story of Barney’s Biscuit Boxes started with Barney, their rescue Labrador cross, born on a puppy farm, but saved, and found his forever home with them.

This was a lengthy and often messy process, and despite my enthusiasm to feed bone broth (and my dogs’ obsession with it) I found it not always practical to make. I would make as much as I could at a time, so I needed to find fridge space – or freezer space – I didn’t really like the smell around the kitchen for the long periods it took to cook, and frankly sometimes it was just time consuming when I had a very busy life and was tired. I also found that on occasions that I really wanted or needed to have some available, those were the times there wasn’t any in the freezer, or I’d have to wait for one to defrost!

The only bone broth that I could find commercially for pets was frozen, and whilst I tried some excellent products, it still took up freezer space and just wasn’t as convenient as I wanted. I found myself searching for something that I could have in the cupboard to call on as needed, but despite all my searches, I just couldn’t find one. That was it, I had to produce my own! I looked at many ways to produce a shelf stable broth. I didn’t want a powder or concentrate, which had gone through a lot of processing, losing a lot of its goodness and taste in the manufacture, so after a lot of searching and research the idea for Karnlea bone broth was born. A packed from fresh, 100% natural, highly nutritious broth with super high amounts of collagen.”

Creating a Green Paw Print

Astaxanthin is a member of the carotenoid family and a powerful antioxidant. Astaxanthin helps protect cells, organs, and tissues from oxidative damage, even in places like your pet’s eyes, spinal cord, brain, and nerves. Provides the immune system with the support that it needs.

Boswellia
Boswellia is a tree gum-resin which posseses powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and analgesic activity, which works well with glucosamine and chondroitin.

Calendula
Calendula Officinalis is also known as pot marigold and its yellow flowers are familiar to many. Calendula is most commonly used in balms, lotions and ointments using the flower and is best known for its soothing and healing properties. Calendula has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Calendula helps to stimulate wound healing by encouraging epithelial growth. It is often a first choice for minor cuts, abrasions, rashes, eczema and even sunburn. Chondroitin
Chondroitin is a key component to slow the deterioration of cartilage. Chondroitin works synergistically with glucosamine helping to reduce cartilage destruction.

Echinacea

Fenugreek
Fenugreek, also known as trigonella foenum-graecum is a member of the pea family. Fenugreek flowers May to July and are yellowish-white, singly or in pairs. Fenugreek has anti-inflammatory properties and is complemented by garlic in Dorwest's Garlic and Fenugreek, which as well as having antibiotic, antiseptic and anti-viral properties also contains anti-inflammatory compounds. Garlic

Garlic can be given as a general supplement because of its wide-ranging action on the body as well as being a specific herbal remedy for coughs and upper respiratory conditions. Garlic is an antioxidant, expectorant, has anti-viral, antiseptic and antibiotic properties. Garlic can be used to reduce the level of parasites in dogs and is effective to repel fleas and worms. Garlic stimulates normal digestive processes and can be used for a wide range of skin conditions. Garlic can remove toxins from the body, supports the immune system to help increase resistance to infection, especially for the older pet. Glucosamine
Glucosamine can be used for the repair of connective tissues such as cartilage by stimulating the production of glycosaminoglcans (GAGs). Glucosamine is often supplemented to augment the body's normal production and especially when in old age and arthritis demand exceeds the body's normal production. Glucosamine works well with Chondroitin.

Green Lipped Mussel
Green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus) are a type of shellfish native to New Zealand, known for their distinctive green edge along the shell. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin, and antioxidants, they are great for supporting joint health.

Kelp
Kelp is a type of brown seaweed that is rich in minerals, amino acids and contains vitamins A,B,E,D and K. Kelp is also a good source of iodine. The largest concentrations are found in joints, hair, skin, and nails. However as part of the aging process MSM in the body begins to decrease and so deficiencies may occur. Slippery Elm

Use when your pet has an upset stomach for example as a result of a change in food may cause a temporary GI upset or as a result of tension or a change in a daily routine or going on a trip. In cases of diarrhea consider slippery elm to ease the symptoms, along with a probiotic. For severe, acute GI problems consult your veterinarian promptly.

Spirulina
Spirulina is an algae which is 60% protein and which is readily absorbed into the blood stream making this perfect for dogs which are unwell or have lost their appetite. Spirulina is also high in the essential fatty acid Gamma Linolenic acid (GLA) which promotes healthy skin and coat. Spirulina is an antioxidant which supports the immune system, especially helpful for the older dog. Spirulina can also support their aging eyes. Turmeric (Curcumin)
Tumeric is the common name for Curcuma longa an Indian spice. Valerian

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. Dogs do make their own vitamin C, but under certain conditions such as stress or disease, this production is likely to be reduced and supplementation maybe useful. Vitamin C also combats the damaging effect of the free radical and is necessary to support a healthy immune system. Vitamin C promotes healing and bone and cartilage formation depend on collagen as a building material, which is only synthesised in the presence of vitamin C.

Witch Hazel
Witch Hazel is an excellent astringent, decreasing swelling and easing associated pain. Witch Hazel will cool inflamed skin and will make hot spots feel instantly better.
